Jim here. This blog is the story of the new adventures of the S/V Short Sale, her crew and the adventures that ensue.
The summer of 2010 Steve had occupied his time by building a puddle duck racer and learning to sail. Shortly thereafter we found a 14' Lido that we spent learning to sail.
Steve had been talking about buying a live aboard and sailing around the tropical waters around the Virgin Islands with his wife Lindsay, but the largest vessel we've ever sailed was the Lido. That was about to change.
In January 2012 my brother Steve and I found a 32' Pearson sailboat on Craigslist for the paltry sum of $1,500.00. The next day we went down to the Cays in Coronado to check it out. It was seaworthy, new rigging, and a completely stripped interior. So we bought it the day before the prior owner was about to scrap it for the lead in the keel.
My girlfriend Kate had found a Groupon months before that for the ASA 101 basic keel boat class. At the last second I tagged along. That's it. That's the extent of the crazy idea.
